Whitmer will fight for workers, increased access to health care
(OKEMOS, MI) – The Michigan Nurses Association, the largest labor and professional association for registered nurses in the state, announced today that it has endorsed Gretchen Whitmer for governor of Michigan.
“Gretchen is the fighter nurses need to advocate for better conditions for all workers and improved access to health care for all Michigan residents,” said Jamie Brown, RN, Michigan Nurses Association president. “Michigan cannot risk enduring four more years of a government that gives corporations tax cuts and showers influence on the wealthy, all at the expense of nurses and other working families.”
While in the Senate, Whitmer played a key role in the state adopting Healthy Michigan, a Medicaid expansion program that provided health coverage for an additional 680,000 Michigan residents. She also fought against the enactment of so-called “Right to Work” legislation and other attacks against workers.
“Michigan deserves a leader like Gretchen who truly serves the people,” said John Karebian, MNA executive director. “Gretchen understands the need to put people – not profit – first, which is why she supports a law to limit the number of hospital patients a nurse can be assigned. Through her commitment to increased quality and access of health care, Gretchen has demonstrated she will be a champion for what truly matters to the people of Michigan.”
The Michigan Nurses Association (MNA) is the largest, most effective union for registered nurses in Michigan, advocating for nurses and their patients at the State Capitol, in the community, and at the bargaining table.
